AMD Phenom II 950 Revealed

AMD has recently released their Phenom II X4 line of processors which are designed to provide an easy yet reasonable computing power compared to its Athlon x2 and Phenom microprocessors. Yet today, we are seeing a few more steps of improvement from AMD’s camp with the introduction of an even more powerful chip named Phenom II X4 950 which has DDR3 support and 2MB more cache making Phenom II packed with a total of 8MB L3 cache.

The upcoming flagship desktop processor Phenom II X4 950 will have a clock speed of 3.1 GHz, 100MHz higher than Phenom II 940 which was recently released. It is also equipped with 6MB of L3 cache and 512KB L2 cache per core for a total of 8MB cache. The processor will sit on AM3 socket but will be compatible with AM2 and AM2+ provided that BIOS is updated to recognize the new processor. Since it will be AM3, it will support DDR3 1333MHz memory and 4GHz HyperTransport interface speed.

Expected release of this processor will be on April this year alongside the 3GHz Phenom II X4 945 and other slower clocked AM3 processors.
